What is EVAC?
The acronym EVAC stands for Eastern Venezuela Activities Conference. Each year, the schools that make up this athletic conference come together to participate in professional development for teaching staff. Traditionally, International School Monagas (ISM) and Colegio International Puerto La Cruz (CIPLC) have alternated hosting the conference.
How is the EVAC conference associated with the AASSA Educators' Conference? Since the AASSA Educators' Conference began requiring evaluations of presentations and recommendations from school administrators in order to select teacher presenters, EVAC has become an opportunity for teachers to have their presentations evaluated before the AASSA deadlines. What is edcamp?
Edcamp is organic participant-driven professional development. This kind of professional development is also known as an "unconference" because unlike traditional conferences which have schedules set in advance by the people running the conference, Edcamp has an agenda that's created by the participants at the start of the event, with the expectation that people in the room will work together to build understanding with their shared knowledge and questions. -edcamp.org Watch this youtube video for more information
How do edcamp sessions work?
Anyone can host a session. The event begins with creating the schedule for the day. The schedule consists of session topics submitted by conference participants who have burning questions, or relevant information based in research. As sessions take place, participants "vote with their feet" moving to a different session if the one they chose is not relevant to their own teaching or needs.
How can I submit a session topic for edcamp?
On the morning of the edcamp we will create the sessions as participants submit their topics on sticky notes. You can come to the conference with a topic already in mind, even an informal presentation prepared, or discuss your topic ideas with others that morning and decide as a small group what topic you'd like to submit.
